AN investigation is underway following a fire at commercial premises on Old Liverpool Road last night.

Two fire engines, one from Penketh and one from Birchwood attended at the premises shortly before 10pm as firefighters responded to a report of a fire in a commercial building.

The crews, in breathing apparatus, used a hose reel jet and two covering jets to extinguish the flames. A high-pressure fan was then used to clear smoke from the building and a thermal imaging camera used to check there were no further hotspots.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is taking place.

In another incident at 1:30 am this morning one crew from Warrington was called to reports of a fire in an outbuilding on Blackbrook Square, Warrington. A hose reel jet was used by firefighters to put out a fire in an outbuilding. Police were asked to attend as it is believed the fire was started deliberately.
