Firefighters called out to more than 100 flooding incidents across Warrington and Cheshire

FIRE and Rescue crews are continuing to respond to flooding incidents in Warrington, including two this morning (Friday) caused by Storm Christoph, as firefighters attended more than 100 incidents across Warrington and Cheshire.

Firefighters from across the county have been working tirelessly to pump the water away, and in many cases have had to use their water rescue skills to help stranded residents leave their flooded homes.
Crews responded to well over 100 incidents across Cheshire during a 24-hour period on Wednesday through to Thursday morning, the vast majority of them related to the storm.
As of this morning (Friday 22 January), more than 150 Cheshire residents have been evacuated or rescued from their homes.
The main areas impacted by the floodwaters include Warrington.
Head of Service Delivery Neil Griffiths said: “We’ve seen an extraordinary effort from our firefighters these past few days in the face of some really challenging conditions.
“Unfortunately, many people have been displaced from their homes in the wake of these floods, and I have to commend the skills of our crews in ensuring that we have been able to get to those who needed our help and bring them to safety.
“Our work isn’t done. Though we are seeing most of the floodwaters recede, there are ongoing concerns in the Farndon area after the River Dee burst its banks this morning, while we’ve still got Northwich town centre and some parts of
Warrington closed off. We will continue to support our communities as best as we possibly can.”
As the worst flooding in living memory hit Warrington, firefighters were called out to perform numerous rescue operations, including 21 people from an independent hospital at Dallam.
It was one of numerous rescue operations across the town, with incidents still ongoing this morning (Friday).
Shortly after 11.30am one crew from Lymm were called to Hill Top Road in Stockton Heath, Warrington, due to flooding at a detached house.
There was flood water approximately 12 inches deep in the basement.
Firefighters were unable to use their equipment in the basement due to access issues so arrangements were made for the homeowner to receive and use an electric pump supplied by their insurance company to remove the floodwater.
The crew from Lymm were in attendance for around half-an-hour.
Earlier today, Shortly before 10am firefighters received a report of a property being flooded on Liverpool Road in Great Sankey, Warrington.
A crew from Warrington attended and removed the floodwater from the property using a pump.
Firefighters were in attendance for more than half-an-hour.
Various other incidents started with the first call out was at around 5.30pm on Wednesday evening following reports of flooding in a car park in Europa Boulevard.
The crew found around 1.5 metres of flood water. A pump was used to move the water away from nearby premises.
Then at around 7.30pm Firefighters were called following reports of flooding at a property on Portola Close, Grappenhall.
On arrival, the crew used poly booms to reduce the floods and removed some water to the rear of the home.
Shortly before 8.30pm firefighters were called following reports of flooding affecting a number of properties in Southworth Avenue. The crew found around 20 to 30 houses that were affected by floodwater. Firefighters went door to door to each property to check safety and helped distribute sandbags.
At 8.45pm Firefighters were called following reports of flooding inside a property on Winwick Lane.
On arrival, the crew found a quantity of flood water entering the property.
Firefighters isolated the electrics and attempted to pump some flood water away.
At 9pm 10 fire engines have attended at Tavlin Avenue, throughout the evening, providing relief to other crews. Two from Penketh, one from Warrington, one from Lymm, one from Birchwood, one from Ellesmere Port, one from Widnes and three from Greater Manchester
On arrival, the crew found that the flooding was due to the fact Ingham Banks of the Dallam Brook had burst.
Several residents were evacuated and sandbags were handed out.
One water incident raft was in use to assist in moving residents.d
At 9.20pm Firefighters used a water pump to remove the water from two address which was affected by flooding on Hurst Mill Lane, in Warrington.
The crew also isolated the electrics at the addresses and were detained at the scene for around five hours
The at 7.30am on Thursday morning firefighters rescued four people who were stranded in floodwater overnight near Hawleys Lane.
A boat was used to reach them and bring them to safety.
Meanwhile, around 21 people from Lea Court are due to be rescued in small groups by boat and rehoused, due to flooding.
Then at 10.15pm Crews attended to reports of residents needing to be rescued from a property on Winwick Road,
Two swift-water teams were deployed with a raft to reach those stranded.
One elderly lady was rescued at her home on Densham Drive. One man and a woman along with a dog were also rescued from another address on the same street.
They were handed into the care of housing.
At 5.10pm one crew was called to an address in Densham Avenue following reports of flooding.
Firefighters using a raft rescued three people from the address and took them to safety.
There was also major flooding overnight at Heatley and Little Bollington near Lymm where a number of families and elderly residents were evacuated from their homes and given temporary accommodation in hotels or via Torus Housing
Association. Reddish Lane was blocked and Birch Brook Road flooded at junction with Rushes Meadow close to the Heatley Roundabout. Further down the course of the River Bollin A56 is blocked at Little Bollington, while flooding at Sowbrook was in the worst in living memory.
