Police have launched an investigation following a fire at a flat in Birchwood where a 58-year-old man was found in a critical condition.
At around 10.10am today, Tuesday 22 September, emergency services were called to reports of a fire at a flat on Teal Grove, Birchwood.
On arrival one casualty, a 58-year-old man was located in the property.
The man was rescued from the address by firefighters before being taken to Whiston Hospital; his injuries are described as critical.
Enquires into the cause of the fire are ongoing, although at this time there is not believed to be any third party involvement.
