Glorious sunshine beams down on Thelwall Rose Queen 2026

GLORIOUS summer sunshine beamed down on the historic village of Thelwall as hundreds of enthusiastic spectators lined the streets for the highly anticipated Thelwall Rose Queen Festival.

The long-standing celebration, widely described by All Saints Church as a powerful symbol of local connection and belonging, filled the parish with vibrant music, elaborate costumes, and an unmatched sense of neighbourhood pride.

The spectacular procession kicked off from the Thelwall Parish Hall. This year’s official creative theme, “Countries,” saw local organisations and school cohorts step up with exceptionally imaginative, internationally inspired displays.
Among the standout highlights of the parade route were pupils from Thelwall Infant School who delighted onlookers with a vibrant, sun-soaked “Australia” themed display.  The energetic drummers of the Katumba band kept the momentum moving through the streets with powerful live rhythms. Dancers from the Lymm Adivas brought waves of energy and bright pink pom-poms to the parade, alongside marching morris groups and representations from local groups like Thrive Childcare and Education
The emotional peak of the afternoon took place on the village fete field, where the community gathered for the official changing of the guard. Retiring 2025 Rose Queen, Emilia Passey, was met with warm, heartfelt applause as she concluded a successful year of community service. She formally passed the crown to the newly elected 2026 Rose Queen, Jenny Richieson. Dressed in an exquisite ceremonial gown and riding on a beautifully adorned, traditional royal float, Queen Jenny was greeted by roaring cheers from family, friends, and neighbours as she assumed her new role to lead the village. Following the parade, the crowds moved over to Chaigeley Field to take part in the lively Rose Fete. The area was completely transformed into a carnival ground packed with a wide variety of activities, including independent food vendors, craft stalls, fairground attractions, and interactive games. The day before the festival, creative locals had also rushed to the Parish Hall to submit their entries for the annual Rose Queen Competitions, which showcased the best of local crafting, baking, model-making, and photography.
