Next week is Mental Health Awareness Week (11 – 17 May), a national campaign week to start conversations around mental health and help create a healthier, more supportive community for all.
This year’s theme, set by the Mental Health Foundation is ‘Action’, focusing on community, kindness and active change. The theme encourages everyone to move beyond awareness and take action to improve not only our own mental wellbeing but also those around us.
As part of the week, Warrington Borough Council, in partnership with Warrington In Mind, will be hosting a ‘Mental Health Marketplace’ on Thursday 14 May, at Old Market Gate (Golden Square) from 10am until 3pm.
The event will feature pop‑up stalls, interactive activities, and the opportunity to talk to community mental health support groups and services. Workshops will also be taking place during the day at the Living well Hub, from 10am until 1pm. Refreshments will be available.
Cllr Maureen McLaughlin, cabinet member for health, wellbeing and social care said: “The theme of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week encourages us not only to think about mental health, but to take action – for ourselves and for others.
“I would encourage residents to find just one thing that could help boost their mental wellbeing, or the wellbeing of someone around them, whether that’s family, friends or colleagues. I’d also encourage people to drop by the Mental Health Marketplace to connect with the fantastic community mental health support groups we have here in Warrington.”
