Warrington prepare for cup semi-final with comfortable win at Huddersfield

A FIVE-try first half display fired Warrington Wolves to a comfortable 34-4 win away at Huddersfield.

The Wolves led 28-0 at the break in a Ewan Irwin inspired display, having held off a bright opening 10 minutes by the Giants that brought them nothing in the way of points.

The game’s opening try came against the result of play, a drop by Niall Evalds punished by Albert Hopoate, who scooped up the loose ball on half way and won the foot race to the corner.

Despite their bright start, Huddersfield folded. A kick-in behind was grounded by Toby King, who scored a try against Huddersfield for the sixth successive fixture and they went back-to-back when Josh Smith, returning to the side after missing the last three, touched down.

Sam Stone coasted through off Irwin’s short pass and on the stroke of half time, Joe Philbin crashed through the posts.

The second half was as miserable as the Yorkshire weather. The game was littered with errors, video referee delays and boasted few points.

Adam Swift sneaked in on the left to get Huddersfield on the board, and Matty Ashton later repaid the favour off Jordy Crowther’s pass from dummy half.

Both sides had tries disallowed but it mattered little.
