A special service of remembrance is taking place to mark the 106th anniversary of the Walton War Memorial, which has been repainted by the parish council.
Walton Parish Council is inviting residents, families and friends to attend the special ceremony on Friday, April 10th at 10.45 am to mark the renovation of the village War Memorial and to commemorate its 106th anniversary.
For more than a century, the memorial has stood as a proud and solemn tribute to the men and women from our community who gave their lives in service to their country. Thanks to recent restoration work, the memorial has been carefully cleaned and preserved to ensure it continues to honour their sacrifice for generations to come.
This anniversary is not only a moment to reflect on the past, but also an opportunity to reconnect with the stories and families behind the names carved in stone. We particularly encourage:
• Families whose relatives are named on the memorial to attend and stand in remembrance.
• Descendants who may have information, photographs or stories to share about those commemorated.
• Anyone who believes a name may have been omitted and would like to enquire about adding a loved one to the Roll of Honour.
The Parish Council is committed to ensuring the memorial accurately reflects all those from our parish who served and sacrificed. If you wish to discuss a potential addition to the Roll of Honour, please contact the Parish Council via clerk@waltonparish.gov.uk
The ceremony will include a short service of dedication and a moment of reflection. Following the service, refreshments will be available, offering an opportunity for the community to gather, share memories and mark this important milestone together.
After 106 years, the War Memorial remains a powerful symbol of courage, duty and community. The parish council hopes people will join them in honouring the past, celebrating its restoration, and ensuring the legacy of those remembered continues to live on in Walton.
Lest We Forget
