STOCKTON Heath Methodists have had a busy week celebrating 120 years since the church first opened in the village.
Church members have been holding a programme of events including a history evening where they dressed in Edwardian clothes and re-enacted the stone laying ceremony at the start of building the Church in June 1905 and also the opening of the building on Nov 2nd 1905.
Senior Steward Geoff Clarke said: “Its amazing that large buildings were built then in less than 6 months!”
Last night (Friday) they held a ceilidh and 60s dance.
Today, Saturday, there is a special exhibition at the church from 10.30 til 1pm and two special services at 10.30am and 6pm on Sunday.
During the morning service there will be a celebration cake, the launch of a new watercolour picture of the building and some will be wearing period costume for a repeat of the re-enactment. The evening service is over in the hall and is aimed at family worship on the theme of light and dark and will end with 120 cup cakes and the whole congregation going into the car park and lighting glow sticks.
Pictures show group members in period costume and Geoff and Lesley Clarke next to a historic chair called “Harrys’ chair,” which is almost 100 years old.
