Reform UK announce candidate for Bewsey and Whitecross by-election

THE Warrington branch of Reform UK has announced local businessman John Roddy as their candidate for the forthcoming by election in Bewsey and Whitecross council ward on Thursday, July 31.

Mr Roddy runs a successful company based in Warrington town centre with operations across the UK. He has worked in the Facilities and Security industry for over 30 years. He has been a lifelong fan of Warrington Wolves.
He joined Reform UK in March 2024 after becoming disillusioned with the direction the country was heading, in particular failing border security, rising cost of living, and declining public services both nationally and right here in Warrington.
Mr Roddy is currently the Deputy Chair of the Warrington branch. He says he will fight the election based on the lack of competency of the Labour run council, saying: “I was shocked to learn the Council is £1.8 billion in debt. An official report heavily criticised the leadership and Councillors, for signing off on investments without proper legal or financial due diligence—investments that had little or no benefit for our community”.
He believes Reform UK stand a strong chance of gaining its first seat on the council, especially as they were just 30 votes away from gaining a seat in the recent by-election in Great Sankey North & Whittle Hall.
The by-election was called following the resignation of local Labour Cllr. Shireen Mohammed, after she secured employment with Warrington Borough Council.
Reform UK also have a candidate, Jack Thwaites, standing for the parish council in Stockton Heath, which is on the same day.
