Family launch fundraiser with heavy hearts as veteran faces final battle

WITH heavy hearts the family of an army veteran from Warrington, who is facing his final battle with cancer, has launched a fundraising campaign to give him the send-off he deserves.

Johanne Ferrigan has organised a GoFundMe campaign to support her beloved grandad, Edmund “Eddie” Bosomworth, as he faces his final battle with cancer.

Eddie, 69, is a proud Army veteran from Warrington and a devoted father and grandfather. He has bravely fought cancer three times—in his lip, jaw, and neck—but sadly, this fourth diagnosis is terminal, and doctors have given him just six months to live.
The family is now hoping to raise £4,000 to help cover funeral expenses and give army veteran Eddie the dignified send-off he deserves—one that reflects his lifetime of service, generosity, and strength. £175 has been raised so far.

Posting on the GoFundme page, Johanne wrote: “It’s with heavy hearts that we turn to this GoFundMe page, which is something we never imagined having to do for our incredible grandad and dad, Eddie Bosomworth.
“Eddie is 69 years old and has spent his life fighting. He fought for his country during his time in the Army, and he’s fought cancer three separate times, in his lip, jaw, and neck. Now, he’s facing his fourth and final battle. This time, the cancer is terminal. Doctors have told us that Eddie has just six months left with us, and heartbreakingly, there are no more treatment options available.
“Eddie is a father to three and a proud grandfather to six beautiful grandchildren. He has always been the kind of man who would drop everything to help someone else. Whether it was a neighbour, a friend, or a stranger in need, Eddie would be there, no questions asked. He’s spent his life lifting others up, and now we want to do the same for him.
“As we come to terms with the time we have left, we’ve also been faced with the painful reality of just how expensive it is to plan for the end. We want to give Eddie the send-off he truly deserves, one that reflects the love, service, and strength he’s shown throughout his life. But funeral costs are overwhelming, and that’s why we’re asking for your help.
“Whether it’s a donation, big or small, or simply sharing this page, every little bit helps and lifts some of the burden we’re facing. Your support will mean we can focus on spending these precious moments with Eddie, making memories, and giving him the peace of knowing everything will be taken care of when the time comes.
“Eddie has always been a fighter and even now, he’s facing each day with strength and courage. We know he’ll keep fighting until the very end, and we want to honour that fight in every way we can.
“Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting our family through this unimaginably difficult time.
“With love and gratitude,
“Everyone who adores our Eddie.”
