POLICE have arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of arson following a serious fire involving a disused building on Barbauld Street in Warrington town centre.
The blaze destroyed the former Cotton Mill and cocktail bar building with more than a dozen fire vehicles called to the scene.
It resulted in a number of town centre road closures. While the fire has now been put out police remain on the scene for safety reasons.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson confirmed: “At around 1pm on Monday 14 April, police were informed of a fire at an unoccupied building on Barbauld Street, Warrington.
“Officers attended the scene to assist with road closures whilst Cheshire Fire and Rescue worked to extinguish the fire.
“There were no reports of any injuries.
“A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of arson. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.
