MOTORISTS planning to use the M62 between Manchester and Warrington this weekend are being advised of important repair work between junction 12 at Eccles interchange with the M60 and junction 11 at Birchwood.
National Highways is carrying out a second weekend of targeted resurfacing along the westbound carriageway from Saturday night (12 April) until Monday morning (14 April). A first weekend of repairs went ahead in February but National Highways was unable to complete the work as planned the following weekend due to a clash with other repairs along the M60 nearby.
The work will now resume and be completed this weekend with the westbound M62 fully closed between junction 12 and junction 11 from 10pm on Saturday night to 7am on Sunday morning (13 April). The carriageway will also be shut between 9pm and 6am on Sunday night into Monday morning.
During the daytime on Sunday – between 7am and 9pm – the westbound carriageway will operate in lanes one and lane two only with lanes three and four closed for the repairs.
When the motorway is closed overnight on the Saturday and Sunday nights a diversion will operate using the anti-clockwise M60, westbound M56 and northbound M6 with drivers rejoining the M62 at junction 10 Croft interchange.
No work will be taking place along the eastbound carriageway which will remain fully-open throughout the weekend.
National Highways has chosen this weekend to finish the repairs as it is relatively quiet events-wise in Manchester. Drivers leaving the Gabrielle concert at the AO Arena in the city centre are being advised to use the official M56 and M6 diversion route if they are heading home west towards Warrington or Liverpool.
To take advantage of the carriageway and lanes closures, other National Highways staff will be undertaking some general maintenance such as gulley cleaning during the two weekends.
Drivers heading out on journeys can check traffic conditions before setting out on journeys. Live traffic information is always available at www.trafficengland.com or from National Highways’ 24-7 customer contact centre at 0300 123 5000. Updates will also be posted to @HighwaysNWest – National Highways’ regional feed on X.
