ROCK Steady Boxing’s Warrington Hub celebrates being open for a year on Friday 11th April and to celebrate they are holding a fundraising afternoon tea open afternoon from 1pm – 4pm.
There is no need to book, just come along and meet some of the Boxers, family, friends and carers to understand what Rock Steady Boxing can do and the benefits people with Parkinson’s disease and their cares get from attending the sessions in the friendly atmosphere of the hub.
Rock Steady Boxing Warrington now has over 60 members attending four sessions a week and the numbers grows weekly.
One of the Rock Steady Boxing organisers Michelle Fox said: “We have achieved what we always set out to do, make a Parkinson’s Hub where every PD super hero matters and feels at home, encouraging self worth, a postive well beiing and feel less isolated.
“We will be tasking all our boxers across both Warrington and Widnes site to knock out 10,000 punches during Parkinson’s Week 7th – 12th April to highlight Parkinons and to raise finds for the club. We became a CIC company in December 2023. Every penny we raise or receive from funding pots, goes straight back into the club, providing a safe and healthy eviroment, equipment and to ensure our coaches have upto date training, providing the best individual exercises sessions for ALL stages of Parkinsons.

One of those to benefit is Tim, a PD super hero, who said: “My Parkinsons nurse actually suggested that I tried a session at Rock Steady Boxing to help with the symptoms I was experiencing.
“I arranged to meet Tommy at the Rock Steady Boxing Warrington gym a few weeks later for an introductory session. I was a bit anxious about it as I wasn’t sure what to expect and if I would enjoy it or feel intimidated.
“What I found was a very welcoming and friendly group of people with the same challenges as myself, and some great volunteers who are there to support the “boxers”.
“Tommy knows just what kind of activities help with the multiple symptoms we all have and he always designs a variety of exercises for us to do at each session to help us fight back. These can all be tailored to the individual depending on ability. It’s open to all ages and levels of fitness.
“I have been coming for about 6 months now and it is genuinely one of the highlights of the week for me. I’m stronger, balance has improved and learned how to box ( well almost!)
“Apart from helping physically, attending these groups also helps with mental well being.
“You wouldn’t expect these groups to be a place of fun and laughter but they are. Everyone is in the same boat and we help each other with good banter. I’ve made some lovely new friends too.
“The group, run by Tommy, is non-profit, so it needs all the members as possible to allow this important service to continue.
“So don’t just think about coming – give it a go!”
