Libraries celebrating World Book Day

Warrington’s libraries are marking World Book Day today with a series of exciting events designed to inspire a love of reading among children and families.

Members of the LiveWire team will be visiting the Baby Zone at Youth Zone to meet with families and distribute free books and World Book Day vouchers.
Meanwhile, the town’s library sites will be hosting story-times, crafts, and themed activities, with school groups invited to take part in dedicated library sessions.
The celebrations have been made even more special following a visit to Warrington Town Hall, where members of the libraries team met Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Wendy Johnson, who generously donated books to support the event and encourage more children to discover the joy of reading.
Families are invited to join in the World Book Day celebrations across Warrington’s library sites, on Thursday 6 March, where a variety of activities will be taking place:

  • Burtonwood Library – Fairy tales trail (11am-11.30am)
  • Westbrook Library – Colouring and fairy tales trail – throughout the day
  • Culcheth Library – Craft activity: “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” (3.30pm – 4:30pm)

Storytime sessions with dressing up:

  • Lymm Library – Friday 7 March, 2pm – 2.30pm
  • Orford Library – Thursday 6 March, 11am – 11.30am

Children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book characters and take part in storytelling and creative activities. Free books and World Book Day vouchers will also be available at all participating libraries.
Councillor Tony Higgins, cabinet member for communities, culture, and leisure, said: “Celebrating World Book Day is a really good way to encourage children to embrace reading and creativity.
“It’s fantastic to see so many engaging activities planned across Warrington, ensuring every child has the opportunity to enjoy and discover the magic of books.”
