WARRINGTON North MP Charlotte Nichols visited Cats Protection – Warrington Cat Centre based in Padgate, to learn about the important work they are doing to re-home and look after local cats and kittens.

The Warrington Cats Proections Centre has a long-established presence in Warrington and is highly thought of in the community.

Charlotte said: “It was lovely to catch up with the amazing team at the Cats Protection – Warrington Cat Centre and to have a cuddle with some of their residents including Russi and a litter of kittens named after characters from the Lion King who are all looking for fur-ever homes.
“We discussed a range of things including the key drivers of cats coming into their care, national insurance pressures on the charitable sector, and provisions to make renting pet friendly.”
Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity and the organisation nationally has helped an average of 157,000 cats and kittens a year with a range of issues over the last five years. In this time they have also helped re-home 34,000 cats in the UK per year. The top reasons people give for adopting cats are to provide companionship, to reduce stress and ease loneliness.

However around 300,000 households have reported to Cats Protection that they have considered giving up their cat. Cost of living pressures have also meant some owners have had to reduce veterinary and food spending on their cat.
Cats Protection offers volunteering opportunities throughout the year. If you are looking to try something new, or if you think you could offer the right home for one of the cats, get in touch.
