TWO Warrington-based unsung heroes have been named in King Charles’ New Year Honours.

Ruth Agnew, chief governance and central support officer at Co-op Multi Academy Trust will receive the honour of Member of the British Empire (MBE) in the New Year for her services to education.
The trust includes schools across Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, Staffordshire and Merseyside.

Meanwhile, Lee Rawlinson, director of the Environment Agency based on Knutsford Road in Latchford, will be recognised for services to the environment and will also receive an MBE.

Other unsung heroes honoured included four victims of the Horizon IT scandal, in which hundreds of sub-postmasters were wrongly convicted of fraud, theft and false accounting because of faulty software.
Lee Castleton, Jo Hamilton, Christopher Head and Seema Misra were recognised with an Order of the British Empire (OBE) for their work campaigning for justice.
More than 1,200 people received honours in the latest list, which is decided by an honours committee.

The king or other leading members of the royal family hand out the awards at ceremonies during the year.
“Each and every day, ordinary people go out and do extraordinary things for their communities,” UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said.
“The New Year Honours List celebrates more of these unsung heroes, and I thank them for their incredible contribution.”
