PLANS have been put forward to replace two tennis courts at Warrington’s David Lloyd Club – and replace them with two padel courts
The application submitted to the borough council’s planning department says the courts at Great Sankey will be designed to stay true to the sport’s origins,
They will feature a pillars type structure, anti-injury mesh infill panels and 10mm approved glass resulting in attractive and minimalist aesthetics.
The playing surface will be the latest technology in artificial grass, ensuring that the facilities will be attractive to everyone from total beginners to seasoned players.
Four 240W LED projectors will be used to evenly light the space and will offer a large reduction in potential energy use when compared to traditional halide lamps, with longer life and greater eco-effi
The padel courts will be accompanied by a padel social space, featuring seating, bag storage unit, tv
unit, planters and a canopy structure.
Padel is a sport of Mexican origin, sharing the same scoring system as tennis. But the rules, strokes, and technique are different.
The main differences from tennis are that the court has walls and the balls can be played off them in a similar way as in squash. Solid, stringless bats are used.
It has become increasingly popular in recent years
A number of tennis clubs in Warrington have already installed padel courts..
