Former police station to be sold

THE former Lymm Police Station is to be sold – along with two others across the county.

Cheshire Constabulary expects to save about £100,000 a year through the sale and the money will be reinvested in front-line policing.
The other two buildings are in Middlewich and Winsford and earlier this year police held a public consultation with local residents in all three areas.
More than 150 people responded to the consultation, with 49 per cent in favour of the sale, 44 per cent against and seven per cent who were neutral.

At one time, Lymm Police Station, in Danebank Road, was open 24-hours a day and there was also a contact point outside the building which could be used by the public. But in recent times the building has been closed.
A police spokesperson said: “Firstly I would like to thank everyone who took part in the consultation and again reassure residents that these plans will have no impact on day-to-day policing in our local communities.
“Over the past 30 years, the way we police has changed greatly and the buildings we are looking to sell are no longer fit for purpose.

“None of these buildings are currently used as working stations and their sale will have no impact on response times for officers attending incidents.
“The buildings do not have public help desks and while Winsford and Middlewich do have contact points outside the premises, these are used very rarely with most residents now preferring to report incidents online or via telephone.
“The savings from the running of these buildings can now be reinvested into front line policing.”
