SIX fire engines, a boat rescue unit and a rope rescue unit were involved in an operation to rescue a dog from the Mersey at Warrington.
The drama took place on the river near Fiddler’s Ferry shortly before 8pm last night.
An adventurous French Bulldog got stuck in mud at the side of the river and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service sent fire engines to the scene from Warrington, Lymm, Birchwood, Penketh, Knutsford and Powey Lane.
The frightened dog was brought to safety after crews made an inflatable path and used a short ladder to get to it.
The animal was clearly shaken but appeared to have suffered no serious harm.

Talk about overkill. Did it really need that many fire engines?
I totally agree a massive over response to a trivial matter .
These services could have been required on a real emergency
