Plans for 67 affordable homes in four storey block

PLANS for 67 affordable homes in a four-storey block have been submitted to Warrington planning chiefs.

The scheme involves the site of the former Harry Fairclough Construction company in Howley Lane, Warrington.

At present, there are office and storage buildings on the site – all of which would be demolished to make way for the new L-shaped building.
All the new apartments would be for rent.
There is also a large area of hardstanding currently used for the storage of shipping containers.

The site is described as being generally run-down. But there are a number of trees, two of which will need to be felled.
New trees will be planted as part of a programme of soft landscaping.
A total of 28 one-bedroom and 39 two-bedroom apartments are proposed – all for affordable homes for rental.
There will be suitable vehicular and pedestrian site access, onsite parking provision for 77 cars, secure bicycle storage, private balconies and communal garden areas, with space to store and separate household and recyclable waste.
The proposals are now being considered by Warrington Borough Council planning officers.

Harry Fairclough Construction which had occupied the site was founded in 1898 but closed its doors for the final time in February 2020 resulting in more than 150 job losses.
