Date set for decision on lap dancing licence at town centre night club

THE licensing application for a sexual entertainment centre, including lap dancing, at the Truth nightclub in Warrington town centre is scheduled to be heard next month (April).

A licence is being sought for lap dancing, pole dancing, striptease and table dancing on the first floor of the premises on Friars Gate, Warrington.

The application is scheduled to be heard in the council chamber at Warrington town hall on April 16 between 3pm to 8pm, with the meeting open to members of the public.

Warrington Borough Cllr Graham Gowland, a member of the licensing committee who is also the Lib Dem candidate for Warrington South, commented: “It’s been really interesting to hear people’s views on the application. I’ve not heard many supporting the application, although the allowed grounds to object are fairly specific. One point that has been made to me is that a licenced club like this allows much better safeguarding for both workers and guests, creating a safer environment than the occasional venues that can operate without a licence. I look forwards to hearing the consolidated submissions at the hearing.”
The application for a Sexual Entertainment License (SEV) seeks permission to be open from 7 pm to 3 am seven days a week.

The application is being made in the name of We Uk Clubbing Ltd and is understood to be the management of the existing nightclub but will operate as a separate business should a licence be granted.
The Truth Nightclub opened in July last year, following the failure of the previous Trilogy nightclub. Before that it had been the popular Showbar and has also previously been The Palace Theatre.
News of the proposed application for a lap dancing licence sparked outrage on social media including an online petition opposing it signed by more than 300 people.
