THE popular Rope & Anchor pub at Woolston is back open for Christmas and set for a £450,000 refurbishment in the New Year, securing its long-term future.

Locals were left shocked when the premises suddenly closed at the end of October after brewery JW Lees was unable to find a suitable new tenant.

But the premises re-opened for the first time yesterday, Monday and will now remain open throughout the Christmas period until January 28, when it will close for a major £450,000 refurbishment, re-opening next March

A spokesperson for the pub posted on social media: “Some amazing news to tell you all we are open till the 28th of January then we close till early March when we will open with a new menu.
Fabulous news 👏👏then the brewery will spend approximately £450k on an amazing refurbishment. Really exciting times, the brewery has made an amazing outlay to secure the pub’s future #longlivethelocal thank you JW Lees!”

The pub had closed at the end of October when the former tenant decided to leave before the brewery could find a replacement after being on the market for three months with no successful takeover.

The opening hours for the next few weeks are as follows:
Monday to Thursday 4/10
Friday 4/11
Saturday 12/11
Sunday 12/8
