THE controlling Labour group on Warrington Borough Council has elected their new leadership team.
Cllr Hans Mundry, Transportation, Highways and Public Realm, has been selected as leader while Cllr. Janet Henshaw, Sustainability and climate change has been selected as deputy following a group meeting on Thursday night.
Cllr. Mundry represents Latchford East while Cllr. Henshaw represents Great Sankey North & Whittle Hall.
The Council meeting on 4th December will receive their nominations and until this date Cllr. Russ Bowden and Cllr. Cathy Mitchell will remain as the Leader and Deputy Leader.
On the 4th December any changes to the composition and membership of the Cabinet/Committees will be made.
It follows the decisions of Cllr Bowden and Cllr Cathy Mitchell, to stand down following their decisions not to seek re-election next May.
Cllr Bowden announced he would not be standing next May due to “significant personal challenges” putting immense strain on his family.
Cllr. Mitchell took the “difficult decision” to stand down due to the challenges faced as a woman, the personal exposure endured and the “lack of effective and timely safeguards” hindering professional, personal and family life.
Commenting on the appointments Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols said:”A very warm welcome to Hans and Janet on their elections as the new Leader and Deputy Leader of Warrington Borough Council. I look forward to working with them both in their new posts.”
