THE award-winning Warrington Male Voice Choir’s 125th Anniversary Concert is set to take place this Saturday, October 7th.

St Elphin’s Church, Warrington will be the venue for the rather special concert for Warrington Male Voice Choir, under Musical Director, Russell Paterson.

Having formed in 1898, it is a major achievement for a male voice choir to still be going strong in its hometown after 125 years. This is thanks to the dedication and commitment of its members, musical staff and supporters who come far and wide to listen to the choir perform! Rumour has it that visitors are coming from as far as Nevada, USA to come and watch the choir perform at their anniversary concert.

The 125th Anniversary Concert takes place on Saturday at St Elphin’s Church, Warrington, and will start at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 adults and £5 under 16s (including refreshments), and you can buy them at the door on the night, however as seating is limited at St Elphin’s Church, it is strongly recommended that you contact choir Secretary, Amanda Davies via email: [email protected] for information on how you can purchase your ticket in advance.
Ahead of the concert, as rehearsals are well underway, Musical Director, Russell Paterson, said: “125 years on, the men of Warrington and its surrounding areas still meet to make quality music. It is an honour to be able to play some part in this choir’s long and distinguished history and, I have no doubt, its successful future.”
Chairman, Craig Bunting, added: ” Warrington Male Voice Choir has a long and distinguished history as one of Britain’s oldest choirs. As the latest in a long line of choir chairman I feel very privileged to be in post as the choir celebrates its ‘quasquicentennial’ anniversary. I hope you will join myself and the choir at what will be an acoustic delight of choral music and a celebration of 125 years of this award-winning choir. I look forward to raising a glass to this magnificent band of brothers”.

The choir is hoping some of its ex-members will come along to the concert to help celebrate this milestone. They may even be asked to come and join the choir and sing with them an old favourite, ‘Bryn Myrddin’. In addition, the family of both current and past members will also be invited to join the choir and sing, what has become a Warrington Male Voice Choir classic, ‘The Way Old Friend’s Do.’
Unfortunately, Choir Patron, Sir Terry Waite KCMG, CBE is unable to attend but he has sent a heart-warming message to the choir which will be read out on the night on his behalf. The choir are delighted though that their President, the Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Steve Wright, will be attending.
