Local Councillor living with multiple sclerosis encourages community to attend free MS event

WARRINGTON Borough Cllr. Maureen McLaughlin, who is living with multiple sclerosis, is encouraging members of the community to attend a free MS event taking place in the town next month (November).

The MS Society is inviting anyone affected by multiple sclerosis (MS) in and around Warrington to join them for an information and discussion event on Thursday 9 November 2023 at the Pyramid Centre, Warrington.

At the free information event people will learn about the work of the local MS group and hear about wider services for people living with and affected by MS. The MS Society is also looking to recruit volunteers to support the development of local services.
More than 130,000 people live with MS in the UK, with around 4,750 people in Cheshire and Merseyside. MS damages nerves in your body and makes it harder to do everyday things, like walk, talk, eat and think.

Cllr. McLaughlin said: “Living with MS, I have first-hand experience of having to make significant changes in my life to enable me to manage the condition. I also know what it’s like to live with MS fatigue and I appreciate that this, along with the wide range of other symptoms, can be truly debilitating.
“I am delighted this information event is taking place so other people affected by MS can learn how to live well with the condition.”
Paul Smithson, MS Society Regional Development Officer, added: “Warrington has a vibrant voluntary sector, but sadly our own local MS Society group needs more volunteers. We’re really keen to hear from anyone who would like to join our dedicated team and help develop and run our invaluable local MS services. You can contact me [email protected] for more information or go to the volunteer section at www.mssociety.org.uk”.
At the event, a buffet lunch will be provided free of charge. The venue is ground floor and fully accessible. Free parking is available onsite.
