Amazon Warrington supports local food charity

A FOOD surplus distribution charity that supports low-income families in the community has received a £1,000 donation from the Amazon fulfilment centre in Warrington.

The Bread and Butter Thing provides affordable food services to help make life more affordable for people living in over 100 low-income communities across the north of England, while also reducing food waste. The Bread and Butter Thing redistributes more than 200 tonnes of food per week, the equivalent of almost 500,000 meals for the community.
This donation follows Amazon’s first act of support for The Bread and Butter Thing in 2020. Since then, Amazon has been a regular supporter of the charity, with employees volunteering for The Bread and Butter Thing projects, while also making product donations.
Employees from the Amazon team also recently visited the charity to help package, transport and deliver food parcels to people in need of support across Warrington.

Speaking on the donation and volunteering, Radek Stegbaeur, General Manager at Amazon in Warrington, said: “Amazon in Warrington has built a great relationship with The Bread and Butter Thing over recent years, and it is our pleasure to offer a donation to and volunteer alongside the brilliant team there. The charity works incredibly hard to help those in need in Warrington, which is greatly appreciated, especially during the current cost-of-living crisis.”
Megan Nelson, an employee at Amazon in Warrington who was involved in volunteering with the charity, said: “I was so pleased to be able to volunteer alongside the team at The Bread and Butter Thing. It was also very inspiring to witness the work they do every day to help people within the community.”
Mark Game, CEO, The Bread and Butter thing, said: “Thank you to Radek and the team members from Amazon in Warrington who came along to help us provide food for their local community. We really appreciate this gesture and the continued support and recognition.”

Community donations and employee volunteering are just two of the ways Amazon supports the communities in and around its operating locations across the UK. Amazon provides students, teachers and parents with free computer science and STEM education programmes through Amazon Future Engineer and has teamed up with charity partner Magic Breakfast to deliver more than six million healthy breakfasts to children at risk of hunger in disadvantaged areas of the country.
Earlier this year, Amazon partnered with Comic Relief to become the official home of the Red Nose. Amazon employees across the UK hosted fundraising activities and together with their customers and partners, raised £2.7 million to support those going through the toughest time of their lives.
