DEVELOPER David Wilson Homes has donated £1,500 to Warrington-based national health and social care charity Making Space as part of its Community Fund Scheme.
With its head office based in Warrington, Making Space has been helping adults with care and support needs, and their carers, to lead independent and fulfilling lives since 1982. The charity provides services from Cumbria to Cambridgeshire, supporting people in their own homes, in their local community and with specialist care and support services.
The donation from David Wilson Homes, based close to the charity at its Orchard Meadows development, has been dedicated to providing stimulating and inspiring activities for people attending Warrington Day Service, a service operated by Making Space. This provides a community day facility, offering a safe and welcoming environment for people to attend the Allen Street premises and a range of community venues across Warrington.
The charity supports hundreds of people in Cheshire and ensures all of its services are tailored to its beneficiaries. It offers support to people living with a range of mental health conditions, whether mild, moderate, complex, challenging or long-term.
Natalie Bargery, Fundraising Coordinator at Making Space, said: “The work we do is really important and makes a huge difference to the people we support. The cost-of-living crisis is affecting everyone and that includes the people who use our services. It’s really important for us to provide days out and activities for our members, especially as they are becoming more expensive.
“We would like to thank David Wilson Homes for its donation as it is vital to support charities and organisations locally. This funding will help to pay for coaches and tickets for the people we support to enjoy days out, and will also pay for equipment, materials, local artists, performers, entertainers, charities and other specialists to provide activities.”
Across Cheshire, Making Space supports unpaid carers, adults with dementia, mental health conditions and older people, helping them to live happy, fulfilling and enriched lives, with a focus on positive outcomes for each individual. It provides a range of activities including arts and crafts, music and performances, games and quizzes, exercise classes and days out.
The charity had to make many changes during the pandemic, from providing digital support to improving gardens and open spaces, as the difficult period demonstrated the importance of spending time outdoors for its members.
With the flexibility and support from its volunteers and members, it was able to continue to provide its services across Cheshire while following government guidelines.
David Wilson Homes’ donation was made as part of the Barratt Developments Plc Charitable Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.
