Public respond to animal charity’s worst cat food crisis

MEMBERS of the public have responded to a cat food crisis at Warrington Animal Welfare.

The charity on Slutchers Lane issued an appeal on social media yesterday, Friday, stating they had “hit a crisis point that we have never reached before with our charity.”

They had 25 little mouths to feed and just three boxes of kitten food in the cupboard.

Launching an urgent appeal the charity posted on social media; “This is a crisis appeal for food to help feed our cats. We are desperately appealing for food to help us feed our most vulnerable kittens.
“Whilst our adult cat food supplies are dwindling rapidly, we have 36 pouches of kitten food left to feed the kittens we have in our care.
Only yesterday we took in two more poor souls who had been discarded like rubbish in a garden. Please help us to feed them 🙏”

Following the appeal donations started to flood in – although those making deliveries had to negotiate a large puddle!

A spokesperson said today: “Thank you for all your kind donations and to our dedicated staff and volunteers who had to wade through the huge puddle to ensure all our furry friends got their much-needed supplies and daily exercise!!”

Warrington Animal Welfare was originally established in 1983 by Joan Rimmer B.E.M. and June Jackson – who have both sadly passed – to provide financial support for pet owners on low income or benefits to help them to pay to have their pets neutered, in a bid to reduce the amount of stray, abandoned and unwanted pets in Warrington.
In 2013 Warrington Animal Welfare opened our first rescue centre in Warrington, which has allowed us to help a lot more unwanted pet.
The charity is solely funded by kind donations and fundraising.
