POLICE have thanked a member of the public who returned stolen goods worth nearly £500 to a store after two shoplifters were arrested on Midland Way near Warrington town centre.

Two officers were on hand on Midland Way to intercept the two males who had stolen over £480 worth of stock from Lidl on Fennel Street minutes earlier.

Both men have since been charged with theft and will appear in court in late January next year.

Police commented: “If you were the nice person who retrieved and returned the stock they tried to hide nearby then we salute you!”
