GUISELEY have banned indefinitely the fan involved in an incident with Warrington Town goalkeeper Tony Thompson at the weekend.

The story gained widespread attention after Thompson’s water bottle was apparently switched with a bottle that had been urinated in by a travelling fan during the FA Trophy match at Cantilever Park.

After confronting the fan, Thompson was sent off by the referee but he has received support from throughout the football community since.

In a statement, the Yorkshire club said: “We can confirm that whilst we await the outcome of the investigation from Cheshire Police and Warrington Town FC, the individual identified as having entered the pitch at the Cantilever Stadium (sic) is banned indefinitely, with immediate effect, from attending all Guiseley AFC home and away matches.

“When the investigation is completed and we can ascertain the level of their involvement in the wider incident we may review the length of the ban if deemed appropriate.”

Warrington Town have been liaising with Cheshire Police in providing evidence, including video footage and eye witness statements.

Guiseley won the match 1-0, and were this afternoon drawn against National League side FC Halifax Town in the next round.

Thompson has received a three-match ban for his red card, though the club are planning to appeal the decision.

Such a ban would rule him out of the upcoming home games against South Shields and Stalybridge Celtic, as well as the trip to Morpeth Town.
