Amazon Warrington team supports charities with surprise donations

THE team at the Amazon fulfilment centre in Warrington recently surprised two mental health charities with £10,000 in donations during a visit to the site.

The charities, Armed Forces Community Support Centre and Speak Up, were special guests at a three-day event held by Amazon to welcome American colleagues to Warrington and showcase some of the local organisations the site works with. The event included a range of activities for employees and guests including as a smoothie vendor, a DJ, and yoga sessions.
While closing the three-day event, members of the Amazon in Warrington team surprised the charities with donations of £5,000 each.

Armed Forces Community Support Centre provides wellness support for veterans in Warrington by offering social events, legal, financial, housing and employment advice, and wellbeing support, including mental health care.
Speak Up created the ‘Pause and Get Warrington Talking’ initiative, which focuses on improving people’s mental health through events, networking, and conversations around mental health and suicide prevention.
James Pitt, Site Leader at Amazon Warrington, said: “It was great showcase some of the excellent programmes we run at Amazon in Warrington to our colleagues from America and supporting two fantastic local charities was a brilliant way to close out the visit. We would like to thank Speak Up and Armed Forces Community Support Centre for their contribution to our community and hope these donations helps boost their services.”

Melvin Sanders, an employee from Amazon in Warrington who attended the event, added: “It’s great to have events like this on site. I love learning more about the charity projects our team supports and how the money is helping people in our community.”

It is support like this that helps us continue our services and spread awareness around veterans’ mental health.”
Speak Up and the Armed Forces Community Support Centre received the donations as part of Amazon’s programme to support the communities in and around its operating locations across the UK.
The company provides disadvantaged students with online STEM courses and has teamed up with charity partner Magic Breakfast to deliver more than five million healthy breakfasts to disadvantaged families in England.
