Warrington joins period of national mourning with book of condolence available at town hall

FOLLOWING the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, a period of national mourning and reflection has begun, with a book of condolence available at Warrington Town Hall where members of the public can also place flowers and wreaths on the town hall lawn.

The council has also taken the decision to cancel the Cabinet meeting scheduled for this Monday, September 12 and full council on September 19 has been postponed.

The national period of mourning will continue until the end of the day of the State Funeral and the council will be following national protocol and advice during this time.
The Town Hall will be open every day, from 9.30am to 4pm, from tomorrow (Saturday 10 September), for people to attend to leave a message of condolence.

Members of the public are asked to use the West entrance to the Town Hall (the side closest to Bank Park) to enter, and exit via the reception area to the East. Stewards will be onsite to direct and support.
Flowers without plastic wrapping can be laid on the Town Hall lawn. Please do not place flowers at the foot of the Golden Gates.

All scheduled civic and council-run meetings and events are currently being reviewed during this period of mourning. The council’s cabinet meeting planned for Monday 12 September has been cancelled and all business will be heard at the following meeting in October.
All local political parties have agreed that the meeting of the full council, due to take place on Monday 19 September, will be postponed.
The flag at Warrington Town Hall is being flown at half-mast as a mark of respect. The flag will be raised to full mast at times, following national protocol, during the local Proclamation Day.

The Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Jean Flaherty, has issued a statement. She stated: “We join with people across the world as we mourn the loss of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, and are thankful for the immense contributions and sacrifices she made for our country and communities.”
Council leader, Cllr Russ Bowden, said: “The grief and sorrow we feel reflects the important role the Queen played throughout our lives and the remarkable legacy she leaves.”
