New frontman seeks volunteers to join Lymm Historic Transport Day team

THE future of Lymm Historic Transport Day looks set to have been secured with a new frontman heading up the organising team – although more volunteers are still needed.

Jack Levy first encountered the event when he was house hunting in the village in 2018 which made him realise Lymm was “a place like no other.”

He has stepped up to takeover fronting the event following the retirement of event creator Alan Williams.

Jack said: “Since 2013 Lymm Historic Transport Day has been one of Lymm’s major events and a crucial source of funding for many worthy local causes. Since its inception, it has been put together each year by Alan Williams and a dedicated group of volunteers, until Covid ruled it out in 2020 and 2021.
“Sadly this year Alan as well as a few of the other members of the group had to stand down. Despite that, this summer a smaller team put on the very successful Boat and Steam Gathering, which helped to keep the spirit of the larger event alive. The aim now is to bring back Lymm Historic Transport Day in full force in June 2023, for the first time since the Covid pandemic. But to do so we need new volunteers to come forward and join the organising team!”

Commenting on his decision to take on the role Jack recalled his first experience while house hunting in the village with the roads being filled with strange old vehicles that immediately told him Lymm was ‘a place like no other’!

In June 2019 he and his young family (along with ten thousand other people!) went to the event and were blown away by how much fun it was and how it brought so many different parts of the community together. When Jack heard that without volunteers it couldn’t continue, he knew he had to put his hand up and get involved.

But the organising team still needs several more roles to be filled.
Jack added: “The fact is that an event of this size just can’t succeed without a good number of enthusiastic people to take on the challenge!”

The aim is to have a full quota of committee volunteers by the end of September in order for the 2023 event to be able to go ahead. If you think you could help to make it happen then now is the time to get in touch with Jack at [email protected].”
