Lymm Tennis Club welcomes Ukrainian refugees

1

LYMM Tennis Club has offered free membership to all Ukrainian refugees in the area.

So far the programme has been a great success with over 15 members signed up.

On top of the free membership, the club has started a fund, which has been raised through various internal means, so all refugees can receive free equipment and coaching.
The scheme was thought up by Lymm Tennis Club member Vicky Bridge. “It was apparent that as a tennis club we could play our small part to help these people that are in an awful situation. We understand that it’s just a small token, but we’re keen for them to feel welcome by both the club and the village. I hope this goes some way to achieving this.”

Head coach Allan Morton said, “Sport is a great way to unite a community. Our refugee members are treated no differently to any other member, which will hopefully give them a sense of belonging.”
Tim Askam, club president added, “I’m very proud of our club. Not just for the fact that we’ve undertaken this scheme but that it’s been entirely supported by everyone in the club.”
Adding to the success of the scheme Warrington Borough Council have awarded Lymm Tennis Club with £1,200 as part of its Community Initiative Fund. These funds will be added to the ongoing fundraising efforts of the club to provide coaching and equipment for the foreseeable future.
