COVID-19 infection rates continue to rise in Warrington as 553 new cases confirmed

COVID-19 infection rates are continuing to rise in Warrington with 553 new cases confirmed in the town and well above the national average.

The 553 (1,407) cases have been confirmed by the UK Health Security Agency in the latest daily data, taking the total number of cases in Warrington since the start of the pandemic to 45,885 (45,322).

Infection rates have risen again to 2,796 (2,562) – 1,335.3 (1,223.5) per 100,000 population over a seven-day period which are above the national average of 1,145.4 (1,095.2) per 100,000, which have risen again.

Warrington & Halton Hospitals’ data is next scheduled to be updated on Wednesday, December 28.

COVID hospitalisations in England are also at their highest level since March 2021.
The number of people in hospital with COVID in England has risen to 9,546, according to latest figures.
The latest figure compares to 8,474 yesterday and is a 12% rise in the number of people in hospital in a single day.
However, the government has said it will not introduce any fresh COVID-19 restrictions in England this side of the new year.
Health Secretary Sajid Javid said people should “remain cautious” when taking part in New Year’s celebrations – and take a lateral flow test before attending events.
