WARRINGTON & Halton Hospital’s Gynae Assessment Unit (GAU) recently celebrated its 3rd birthday of helping prevent women from having to attend the Emergency Department, by being seen in a bespoke environment.
The unit, which is located in the Croft Wing of Warrington Hospital is available for women who are experiencing a range of conditions and concerns including acute pelvic pain, heavy, irregular bleeding and issues relating to coils or abscesses. The clinic is also available for women who may have concerns during early pregnancy outside of normal clinic hours.
Women can be referred by GP, midwife or by contacting NHS 111 which can offer time booked slots direct with the GAU service. The clinic is open 7 days a week, from 8am to 8pm, offering a last appointment time of 7pm.
Dr Satish Hulikere, Clinical Director for Women’s and Children’s services said: “The clinic team treats around 190 women every month after referral, with usual waiting times of only 1-3 hours between assessment and treatment. The service helps to direct women away from having to attend the Emergency Department.
“The team has provided a much-needed service for women across Warrington & Halton over the past 3 years with the clinic providing a comfortable setting, beneficial for the patient, where a range of conditions can be diagnosed and treated.”
