WESTBROOK Library is set to reopen for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, on Monday 6th September.
The library, which is run by LiveWire on behalf of Warrington Borough Council, has been closed since March 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic.
While its doors were closed LiveWire and Warrington Borough Council have worked on a Business Case for the library, aimed at increasing community use of the site.
The internal library space has also been reconfigured with the relocation of shelving and computers within the library creating a multi-purpose space to be used for community hires and activities.
The new opening hours for Westbrook Library are:
· Monday 10.00am to 1.00pm
· Wednesday 2.00pm to 5.00pm
· Saturday 10.00am to 1.00pm
LiveWire’s reopening plans for all its libraries centre on the safety of customers and staff, and are aimed at giving customers the confidence to borrow books in a friendly, safe and hygienic manner.
Emma Hutchinson, Managing Director of LiveWire, said: “We are delighted to be reopening Westbrook Library for the first time since the start of the pandemic. We hope the changes our team has been able to make while the doors have been closed, as well as the work done on the business case, will help to encourage wider community use of the library and we can’t wait to welcome customers through the doors again next month.”
Warrington Borough Council’s cabinet member for neighbourhoods and communities, Cllr Tony Higgins, said: “It’s good news that Westbrook Library is able to safely open its doors to local people once more, from September. We have made some improvements that we hope will benefit library users, and we are working closely with LiveWire to develop a business case for the future of the library. We will continue to keep the community updated as this work progresses.”
Great Sankey, Orford Jubilee and Woolston Neighbourhood Hubs, Birchwood, Burtonwood, Culcheth, Lymm, Padgate, Penketh and Stockton Heath libraries are all now open. The Warrington Library building in the town centre is currently closed for renovation works but a temporary pop-up museum & library can be found within Golden Square Shopping Centre.
For customers not able to return to libraries in person, LiveWire offer an Order and Collect, and Home Library Service.
