Warrington Wolves issue apology after coach uses derogatory language on TV

WARRINGTON Wolves has apologised for the “hurtful and derogatory” language used by head coach Steve Price in his post-match interview on Sky Sports.

He used the term when comparing young forward Ellis Longstaff with England international back-rower John Bateman.

Sky Sports apologised live on air following the interview, and Price himself apologised in his subsequent press conference.

A Wolves statement said: “The term is wholly unacceptable and its usage has no place in the sport or society.

“Steve has since apologised, expressing his extreme regret and disappointment and corrected his remarks in his post-match press conference.

“The Club will make no further comment and the matter will be dealt with internally.”

Warrington won the match against Leigh 44-18 at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Price is leaving the club at the end of the season to return to Australia, and will be replaced by current Castleford coach Daryl Powell.
