CONCERNED councillors have met with HS2 planners to discuss their fears over the likely impact on Lymm village when work gets underway in early 2026.

Local Cllrs Kath Buckley, Ian Marks and Anna Fradgley met with the HS2 planners to discuss their concerns after hearing the works will involve 30-60 HGV vehicle movements a day for more than six years!.
Cllr Buckley said: “At an HS2 meeting a few months ago l was very concerned that they were not specifically addressing the issues for Lymm.
“I got them to schedule a specific meeting for Lymm to try and take on board my concerns with regard to traffic and general disruption for the Village and the local environment.
“The HS2 team were keen to say that they were intending to minimise disruption but there will still be 30 to 60 HGVs plus other traffic coming out of the compounds where equipment etc will be stored, six and at times seven days a week.
“Country lanes will have to be altered as they are now aware of how narrow the lanes are.
“They did take on board my comments and Cllr Fradgeley’s about the fact that when there are issues with the motorways that Lymm and Warrington become gridlocked.
“Lymm traffic easily becomes very bad whenever there are issues because of the narrow nature of the roads,” added Cllr Buckley.
Other issues discussed included the recent Flooding and the disruption caused.
The proposed schedule of works are:
A56 Lymm Road to M56 start early 2026 – 4 years 9 months
Mill Lane/Bent lane A6144 start mid-2026 6 years 3 months
Warburton A6144 to M60 start late 2026 6 years 3 months
Cllr Buckley added: “So basically, the Warburton side of Lymm will have HGVs 30 to 60 a day six or seven days a week for four to six and a half years!”
“They are now aware that Wet Gate Lane and the roads around the area cannot take the size of the vehicles so they will have to be widened etc. So, a lot of preparation work will have to take place before any actual work can start.
“We have been told the HGVs will not go through Lymm, but as you can imagine the traffic flow and potential for hold-ups caused by this increase on that side of Lymm is clear for all to see!”
