Warrington Town league season remains paused but FA Trophy game goes ahead

WARRINGTON Town’s league season will remain paused, but they will continue to play in the FA Trophy.

The Northern Premier League announced that a vote of its member clubs, as well as those in its equivalent leagues in the south, had decided that games couldn’t go ahead in current conditions.

Following the introduction of the Government’s revised tier system, clubs in tier 3 would be unable to have fans at games, thus denying the clubs the income required to play.

The Yellows haven’t played since the 3-1 defeat to FC United on November 3.

They will, however, return to action on Tuesday December 8 in an FA Trophy game away at Marske United.

The FA competitions are continuing, behind closed doors, and the Yellows will travel to the north east for a 7pm kick-off, having beaten Lancaster City on penalties in the previous round, their last home game prior to lockdown.

The league says that the situation will continue to be reviewed in line with Government announcements, and if grants are made available.

Another review is expected on December 16, though the league says it’s unlikely that fixtures will be scheduled now until January – although clubs who wish, may be able to play before then.
