Wolves game in France called off due to coronavirus

WARRINGTON Wolves’ game against Catalans Dragons on Monday has been postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak at the French club.

The game had been placed in doubt after testing earlier in the week revealed five players and two members of the backroom staff had received positive tests for COVID-19, which resulted in the cancellation of training and their home game against Hull on Thursday.

Subsequent testing has seen two more players receiving positive results, meaning the club remains shut down.

New French government coronavirus restrictions were due to decrease the number of fans permitted from 5,000 to 1,000 at the Stade Gilbert Brutus.

Catalans have played two home games in front of crowds in recent months, the only club to do so since lockdown in March.

Their play-off hopes now lie in tatters, as they must complete 15 games to enable them to be eligible to qualify for the play-offs.

The Dragons have only played 12, while Warrington, St Helens and Wigan have already reached 15.

Warrington are next due in action against Salford on Friday, October 30.
