WARRINGTON Borough Council is working closely with Public Health England to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the town following an increase in locally confirmed cases.

As reported by warrington-worldwide yesterday, the town has seen its largest daily increase since May, while a town centre pub has also closed after several staff tested positive.

A Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: “The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Warrington has increased over the latest, confirmed seven-day period. We are also aware that there are a small number of staff at the White Hart pub who have tested positive for coronavirus. The pub has temporarily closed, and we are working closely with their management team and Public Health England to identify who may have potentially been exposed to prevent further spread of the virus.

“These latest figures highlight the need for us all to continue to follow the government’s guidance on social distancing, good hand hygiene, and wearing face coverings to keep ourselves and others as safe as possible. If you have any symptoms, however mild, please self-isolate and book a test immediately. This will help prevent the spread of the virus and will protect others, particularly those who are elderly or have underlying health conditions, from becoming extremely unwell.”
“If anyone has any concerns about coronavirus safety in any setting, you can report it to us on our website at warrington.gov.uk/back-in-business

Meanwhile, Health Secretary Matt Hancock says the UK could see a second spike in coronavirus cases if young people don’t follow social distancing rules,.
A third of all cases in England last week were people aged between 20 and 29.
“The numbers have been going up. And we’ve seen in other countries where this leads, and it is not a good place.”
Students starting university this month is a “concern”, he added.
