A surprise socially distanced gathering was held in Woolston Park recently to thank Jeff Stephens, a retired joiner, for his efforts making wooden “Woolston Pigs” in exchange for donations to Birchwood Fire and Ambulance Services.

As the whole thing began in Woolston Park there was no more fitting location and Jeff’s wife Barbara took him for a walk in the park to be greeted by a group of over 50 complete with their pigs who applauded a very surprised Jeff as they arrived.
Jeff’s enterprise started when two pigs that he placed in the park for the enjoyment of children were vandalised, inspiring him to make a few more for people who would be prepared to make a donation to Birchwood Fire and Ambulance Services. Jeff’s daughter Miranda Sherlock and her husband Steven are both Paramedics with Miranda based at Birchwood.

Many weeks, and over 200 pigs, later Jeff has finally decided to put down his saw and have a breather!
There have been two auctions and raffles held through the Woolston and Martinscroft Community Facebook page with one special pig achieving an auction price of over £100!
Miranda felt it would be nice if they could get a group of pig owners together for a secret surprise thank you to show appreciation for all Jeff’s hard work and dedication.
Jeff announced that the final sum raised is in excess of £2,500 which was gratefully received by Birchwood Fire and Ambulance Services.

Requests for Woolston Park Pig come flying in!
