Council continuing to review reopening of Stockton Heath Recycling Centre

WARRINGTON Borough Council is continuing to review the reopening of the Stockton Heath Recycling Centre, with concerns that its closure is causing increased fly-tipping.

Lymm Borough Councillor Kath Buckley, believes the continued closure of the Stockton Heath site is increasing fly-tipping at a recycling skip at Lymm’s Davies Way car park.
She has urged the borough council to reopen the Stockton Heath facility as soon as possible.
Cllr Buckley said:“I have raised the question with the Council about reopening the Sandy Lane Household Recycling Centre at one of our Q and A sessions. They say it is down to man power and health and safety.
“I have raised the issue of the increase in fly tipping and said it needs to be open to alleviate pressure on local skips.
“But we also need people to use the skips properly and not just dump all their household waste in a skip which is for recycling.”

A Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: “There are difficulties with the Stockton Heath site, including its size and location, which present many difficulties and safety risks in terms of COVID-19 risk management.
“We continue to review the possibility of reopening Stockton Heath CRC, and will do so when we’re confident that the safety and traffic management plans we would be able to put in place will be sufficient in ensuring people can use the CRC safely.
“We would encourage residents to continue to use our other sites at Woolston and Gatewarth, which can safely accommodate the measures in place to support social distancing and keep our staff and residents safe.
