Footballers and club officials raise over £1,200 during lockdown training challenge

LOCAL footballers helped raise over £1,200 for their club and charity during a lockdown training challenge.

Back in late April, the players and officials of Eagle Sports FC came together to raise funds in these uncertain times in the form of a 5KM Challenge.
The aim was for every player and official at the club to walk/run 5km and donate a minimum of £5 once this had been completed.
Then, weekly, on their daily exercise (When this was the lockdown rule), they completed the same exercise looking to beat their initial time set in their first walk/run.
Should the Player or Officials’ time be below their original time, then they donated another minimum of £5 to the fund. If the time was quicker than their last attempt, then a minimum £5 donation would be made at the end of the challenge.
Runs were completed by players and officials at the club along with members of the public who were keen to get involved. There were also donations from members of the public and the local community.
All funds raised will be evenly split between two causes: Warrington and Halton Hospitals Charity and Eagle Sports FC.
The total amount raised was £1235, with £620 donated to WHH Charity and £615 towards the Football Club.
Club Secretary Danny Nixon visited the WHH Charity Community Hub to hand over the raised amount, much to the appreciation of the hard-working staff at the charity,

Warrington and Halton Hospitals’ Charity, ‘WHH Charity’, raises funds to provide additional comforts, care or experiences for the direct benefit of patients and their families beyond that which the NHS provides. With the support of many, many donors and fundraisers we raise money to improve patient environments, fund additional equipment or facilities or provide important complimentary services to enhance their patients’ overall experience.
Playing in the Cheshire Football League, Eagle Sports FC rely heavily on funds generated on Match Days as well as regular income from players, sponsors and supporters during the football season. With the current lockdown in place, their season has prematurely ended early and they have missed several opportunities to secure vital funds in preparation to carry out essential maintenance over the summer months, ahead of next season. The squad is made up of local players from the Warrington area and has been established since 1928.
