A Warrington charity will be able to continue supporting vulnerable people during the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to an express grant from Police and Crime Commissioner David Keane.
Funding from Cheshire’s police and crime commissioner from his Safer Communities Fund Express Grants will enable Warrington Disability Partnership to continue providing outreach services including medical essentials and hot food delivery across Warrington.
The £1,000 will enable the charity to deliver a number of essential items to its clients including prescriptions and disability aids.
It will also allow the charity to deliver hot meals to vulnerable people in isolation who ordinarily attend lunch clubs at the independent living centre on Evelyn Street. Vulnerable people will receive a hot meal weekly which will be delivered, contact free and in line with government guidance.
Ebony Cropper of Warrington Disability Partnership, said: “The majority of those who attend our luncheon clubs and self-help groups are either over the age of 70 or have a disability and/or long-term health condition. This is often the only hot meal our service users get in the week, so we will now be able to maintain this”.
“This delivery service will also enable us to keep in contact with 100’s of vulnerable people, ensuring they are safe and well during this time of uncertainty.”
PCC David Keane added: “The coronavirus pandemic is having an effect on so many people in our society. I established this emergency fund to support organisations to respond to the needs of their service users and I have been amazed at how groups are supporting people to get through this crisis.
“Warrington Disability Partnership do an incredible job ensuring people with disabilities and long-term health conditions in the area have access to regular contact, medical support and warm meals”.
“This funding will allow them to put in place a number of measures to maintain contact and provide support for those isolating at home, which has such a key role to play in reducing isolation, loneliness and vulnerability.”
