A WARRINGTON youngster celebrated his 10th birthday running marathon in style – helping raise £1,500 supporting NHS staff and volunteers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

After being put through his paces by London Marathon veteran Louise Blizzard, 10-year-old Alfie, completed his 26.2 mile marathon over a period of nine days in a total time of 3.51.59
All funds he has raised wil be Supporting NHS staff and volunteers caring for Covid-19 patients run by Association of NHS Charities for NHS staff, volunteers and patients impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.
Proud mum Louise, who should have been taking part in her 26th London Marathon today said: “He did it!!! 26.2 miles done in a total time of 3.51.59
“An amazing £1500 raised so far for #NHS and thank you so much to everyone for all your encouragement and support throughout.
“I felt so incredibly proud running every step with him, and what an amazing way, which should have been the London Marathon day, to turn in to the most positive and happy experience!
“Happy 10th birthday Alfie Blizzard, you are amazing- well done, we are so so proud of you>
Louise had been due to hit the streets of the capital yet again in the 40th edition of the race which is now on hold after organisers were forced to postpone it until October, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
But undeterred Louise helped her son Alfie complete a marathon, running 3 miles a day near their home, to help raise funds for the NHS and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, as a thank you for the care he recently received there.

Louise, aged 44, a compliance officer for Crest Medical, ran her first London Marathon at the age of 18 in 1994, clocking a time of three hours, 32 minutes and one second.
The following year she ran 2:58 having been invited to run with the elite women for the first time and then set her personal best of 2:54 in 2004.
She has missed the event just once, when heavily pregnant, in 2010. Her son, Alfie, was born the day after the London Marathon – making this week’s challenge extra special.

  1. Well done Alfie and coach – a great effort – wishing you well on your first London Marathon – you did a great time in 3.51.59 which is brilliant and not far off mine as I stopped off for 2 buck fizzes not far from Big Ben – but I was thirsty – they really gave me a boost for a 3.34.50. But don’t follow my advice stick to water.

To be fare I didn’t know what was in the glasses I thought that it was orange juice – you drink the bucks fizz after you’ve finished on the pub benches.

Anyway before you first London you have loads of races that your mum and dad will hopefully be getting you ready for.
