ONE more person has sadly died at Warrington Hospital, as the total number of confirmed cases of people testing positive for COVID-19 in the town has increased to 326.
The total number of people to have died at the hospital is now 34, as the number of new cases increased by 25.
Across the country there have been 4,342 cases and 717 deaths taking the UK Cumulative totals to 88,621 cases and 11,329 deaths.
During the Government’s daily press briefing Health Secretary Domic Raab, who was joined by chief medical officer Chris Whitty and chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance, said there were “positive signs” in the latest data but the UK had still not got over the peak of the virus.
He said he didn’t expect any change in the UK’s lockdown this week.
Sir Patrick said social distancing was reducing transmission and the number of confirmed cases appeared to be flattening off. But he acknowledged not all cases are being reported as many are able to stay at home rather than go to hospital. CMO Whitty said deaths which were not taking place in hospitals were being reported to the Office of National Statistics which were delayed for a number of days, compared to hospitals.
He added that hospitals were operating effectively and remaining “below capacity” in terms of intensive care.  Over 16 million items of PPE were rolled out over Easter weekend.
