WARRINGTON Borough Council is seeking to recruit carers to help protect the vulnerable in the local community during challenging circumstances created by the Coronavirus pandemic.
The council is offering temporary paid employment for motivated people who will receive a fast-track training package to help boost the existing caring network which is under increasing pressure with staff having to self isolate and care for their children.
In a joint statement Council Leader Russ Bowden and Chief executive Steven Broomhead said: “Many of us are now working from home and families are changing the way that they are living to adapt to the latest guidance from the government.
“Our care providers across the town are working with real integrity and commitment to support our most vulnerable residents in the utmost challenging circumstances. These circumstances are changing daily, too, but they are being responded to magnificently. It is a testament to all of our carers that services are continuing to operate, despite staff having to self-isolate and look after children.
“We are doing all that we can to support our carers. The council is in regular contact and we regularly escalate some of the key issues they raise to the highest levels in central government. Issues such as the lack of protective equipment need to be addressed. We know providers have been helping each other out and sharing where they can, but this remains an ongoing problem that needs a solution – fast.
“We are only managing to deliver essential services as families continue to step in and support us with care of their loved ones. This is making a big difference and allowing us to target help where it is most needed.
“As the situation unfolds we will need to draw on the skills and experience of our community to plug the gaps in care – particularly over weekends and Easter as it approaches.
“We want to train and provide temporary paid employment for motivated people as quickly as possible. Doing this will support local care providers to maintain essential front line community services in the care sector. We are working closely with local providers and trainers to put in place a fast-track training package that will equip willing people in our communities with the essential skills they need to deliver care and support.
