Warburton Bridge tolls suspended due to Coronavirus pandemic

PEEL Ports have suspended tolls at Wabrbuton Bridge due to health and safety concerns during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Customers had expressed concerns when exchanging money with booth operators who have recently been wearing gloves.

Welcoming the news Warrington South MP Andy Carter said: “Peel Ports have taken the sensible step of lifting tolls over the Warburton Bridge for safety reasons.

“But only travel if it’s an essential journey – work from home if you can.”

The decision has left those who have bought annual passes for the Warburton Toll Bridge asking if they will get a refund?

A spokesperson for Peel Ports said the decision had been taken for the the health and safety of employees, contractors and customers.

The barriers have been lifted with immediate effect and will remain open until it is safe to resume normal operations.

There have been ongoing campaigns for many years to have the historic toll lifted due to the traffic congestion it causes in the area.
